You know that feeling when you walk into the office and your inbox is already overflowing with urgent requests? (And let's be honest, in healthcare, everything seems to be marked "URGENT!" in red!) That's precisely when having a foundation of faith becomes most crucial.


I've made it a practice to start each day with a moment of prayer and reflection before diving into the day's challenges. This isn't about finding immediate answers – it's about centering yourself and remembering who you ultimately serve.


The GRACE Method of Decision-Making

Over the years, I've used what I call the GRACE method for faith-based leadership decisions:

  • Gather facts and perspectives

  • Reflect in prayer

  • Ask for wisdom and guidance

  • Consider impact on all stakeholders

  • Execute with compassion

Recently, while overseeing a major implementation that would affect thousands of patients, I found myself at a crossroads. The financial metrics suggested one direction, while my heart pulled in another. It was during prayer that I gained clarity: our mission wasn't just about numbers but about serving the patients with excellence and compassion.

Remember, as it says in Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
